3.Principles for
Responsible Management Education

The Association of MBAs has announced it is to partner with the United
Nations Global Compact as part of the Compact’s Principles
for Responsible Management Education (PRME) initiative.
In a move that demonstrates the Association’s commitment to being at the
forefront of a new era of responsible management education, it has asked
the United Nations Global Compact to participate in its 2010 review of
accreditation criteria for all MBA programmes. This means that business
schools who want to obtain the international status and credibility that
comes with Association of MBAs accreditation will have to ensure that
they fulfil all aspects of the rigorous assessment criteria – including
those guided by the PRME.
“We are very excited about our strategic partnership with the PRME,” says
Jeanette Purcell, Chief Executive of the Association of MBAs. “It will
strengthen our position as the champion for high standards in responsible
management education. We support the PRME’s objectives and will work to
ensure that the principles are at the forefront of our thinking as we
consider the MBA’s future development”
The PRME are internationally-recognised standards designed to inspire and
champion responsible practices at business schools and management-related
academic institutions.
Dr Manuel Escudero, Special Adviser to the United Nations Global Compact
and Head of the PRME Secretariat, said “I am truly delighted to have
formed this strategic partnership with the Association of MBAs. They are
a pioneering organisation that is undertaking groundbreaking work.
Through our collaboration we hope to open up new horizons in postgraduate
management education.”
